George Sleezer

I was born in Coffey County, Kansas on a farm where my father worked as a laborer until I was about three years-old. He took a job working in the oilfields, and we moved to Greenwood County where my parents raised me and my four siblings. My parents always took us to church, and when I was twelve years-old, I realized I was a sinner and condemned to an eternity of torment. I repented of my sin and for many years, labored under the idea that I had to be good enough to go to heaven. After years of searching and studying the Scripture and praying for the answers to my questions, God opened my eyes to the truth of His wonderful grace and His salvation by faith in Christ alone.

At age seventeen after graduating from Lamont High School in 1957, I went to Topeka and worked as a clerk for the Santa Fe Railroad for four years and eight months. During that time I married Rose, my high school sweetheart, and we had our first child, David. I quit my job at the Santa Fe Railroad and went to barber school for six months. We then moved to Emporia in September 1962 where we had our second child, Donald, and I worked as a barber for the next forty three years until my retirement on December 31, 2005. We had become members and served in another church here in Emporia for many years and started attending Flint Hills Christian Church in May, 1981 and became members in May, 1983.

As I approached retirement, I read Don't Waste Your Life by John Piper and was convicted to not waste my life in retirement. Therefore, I was happy to serve as a Shepherding Elder where I have been since January 3, 2006.

Over the years I have failed many times as a husband, father, and as one of God's children, but God has always drawn me back into the fold of His sheep through the loving forgiveness and mercy of His Son, Jesus Christ. I am thankful He has revealed to me His sovereignty and wonderful grace which gives me peace in knowing Him and the power of His resurrection.
